Frequently Asked Questions

  • We host everything from hikes to camp outs, film festivals to fly fishing clinics, outdoor art classes to Nordic ski clinics.

  • We have had all ages participate in Mountain Girl clinics and events from 18 - 70+. Age is not an indicator of ability!

  • Social media and news outlets often give us the impression that we have to be a certain body type or personality to belong in the outdoors. The outdoors is for everyone. By learning a new skill, you will hopefully experience confidence in not only your ability to do the thing but also in yourself. Step into who you are and embrace it!

  • No. In fact we encourage beginners to join us! We offer a wide range of activities suitable for different levels of experience, ability and fitness. Some of our activities are geared toward beginners. Other activities such as film festivals, hikes and bike rides are for everyone.

  • Mountain Girl classes are designed to be small group settings that are welcoming and learner focused. There are plenty of smiles and laughter that are shared but never at the expense of another's feelings.

  • Name brand gear is fun to have but it is not necessary to learn a new skill. We will get you started with gear rentals for most of our clinics. As far as everything else, start with what you have and work your way up to that name brand stuff if you decide that it is needed.

  • It depends on the activity, but generally, comfortable and breathable clothing suitable for outdoor conditions is recommended. Layers are great for adjusting to changing temperatures.

For classes and clinics, we will email you a list that includes what to wear, what to bring and what to expect.

  • The required equipment can vary depending on the activity. We will send you an email that will provide a list of necessary gear, but essentials often include appropriate footwear, water, sunscreen, and any specialized equipment for the activity.

  • If you have your own equipment, please bring it. It is better to learn using the equipment that you have and that you will be using when you do the activity on your own.

If you don’t have your own equipment, we provide equipment or have equipment rentals available with every class.

  • Yes. We recognize that we learn as much from each other as we do from the instructors. That being said, our classes and trips are great opportunities to meet other women with similar interests while building your outdoor skill set.

  • Not at all! Many of our participants sign up for our classes and clinics by themselves and go away with a brand new group of friends. One of the best things about Mountain Girl events is finding a community of women with similar interests that you can enjoy the outdoors with. However, if you and your BFF (or your mom) want to sign up together then we are here for it!
