Ladies Who Cast - Weekend Retreat Thermopolis

Are you interested in learning how to fly fish but aren’t quite sure how to get started or where to go? Join us for a weekend retreat!

Join us for Mountain Girl’s Level 1 fly-fishing clinic designed to give you the knowledge and skills needed for a day on the river! This weekend retreat has it all - lodging, food, and fishing in beautiful Thermopolis Wyoming - home of the world's largest mineral hot spring.

Thermopolis’s own Elisa Daniels will cover Gear 101 and how to find what you need at your local fly shop, along with lots of hands-on instruction and a casting workshop. We’ll put your skills to use with a half-day of coached fly fishing on the Big Horn River. Don’t have the gear? Don’t worry we have you covered! All you need is a Wyoming fishing license and conservation stamp (we will help you with this).

Here's a list of what we have planned:

  • Mountain Girl Talk (all things related to fishing, being a woman in the outdoors, and what to expect this weekend).

  • All the technical fly fishing stuff - knots, gear, flies, fly boxes and rods.

  • Casting instruction and practice. We will do this at the lodge before we go to the river.

  • Visit a fly shop and learn how to read the board, where to find stuff

  • How to read the water, entomology and fish handling before fishing

  • FISHING (of course) on the Big Horn River

  • Evenings around a fire pit with good snacks (s'mores anyone?), friends, and stories

Optional Activities include:

  • Hot Springs soak (Saturday night or Sunday before you go home)

  • Dinner in Thermopolis

  • Visit the Hot Springs State Park

  • Visit the Wyoming Dinosaur Center

  • S'mores & Campfire at the lodge - Fish stories included

  • Sunday option to fish or visit the Hot Springs before heading home

ALL INCLUSIVE TICKET: $600 includes lodging and most meals (2 breakfasts, Saturday lunch, Friday night dinner, Saturday night have dinner at the lodge or on your own in Thermopolis). The lodge has 5 bedrooms with 9 beds and 5 full baths. We will have plenty of room to spread out and everyone will have their own bed.

LOCAL PASS: $300 - Live near Thermopolis? This option includes all activities, meals and workshops, but does not include overnight lodging at the lodge. **This pass is only for those living in or near Thermopolis -thank you for understanding!**

This clinic is taught by Elisa Daniels. Elisa is a high school counselor in Thermopolis Wyoming. She lives with her husband and two daughters on the banks of the Big Horn River north of Thermopolis. Elisa began fly fishing in 2013 after completing school and moving back to Thermop. Living on the Big Horn allowed her the opportunity to begin her fly fishing journey close to home, grow her skills and expand from there. She has fished many different waters around Wyoming. Most of her trips take her off the beaten path into the backcountry, from the Washakie Wilderness, to the Bob Marshall. One of her favorite trips was a week in British Columbia exploring the Elk River. For Elisa, Fly Fishing has become a passion and opportunity to spend time with her family while introducing her girls to the outdoors.

Lodge where we will be staying near Thermopolis Wyoming. The lodge is 6000 square feet with 9 beds and 5.5 baths and includes a pond, firepit, and wifi.
